THINGS TO KNOW FOR FOR YOUR VISIT

Attractions

Around St. Ottilien Abbey and its church, the monastery village is situated; workshops, agricultural buildings, a modern cowshed with a balcony above the rotary milking, high school, plant nursery (with open purchase of plants and vegetables for visitors), publishing house, herb garden, bee house, observatory, cemetery with antique burial crosses etc. can be visited. You can enjoy numerous walking and hiking trails in the local area. For more information, visit St. Ottilien Archabbey's web site (in German language).

Cultural program

The Abbey Gallery on the upper floor  of the Klosterladen (Monastery Shop) presents varying art exhibitions, at the Sewing Machine Museum you can see 380 exhibits from 140 years, among them a few rarities.

The St. Ottilien event program offers bi-weekly concerts at the Abbey church.

12 text plates in the monastery village inform about St. Ottilien's Jewish history, where between 1945 and 1948 a total of 6100 Jewish patients were cared for. A website gives detailed information about the hospital, the "Ottilien babies", the liberation concert and Jewish life in the monastery village. At the Klosterladen (Abbey shop) you can purchase an information leaflet on the Jewish cemetery.

Since 2012, numerous graffiti adorn the walls of the buildings, painted by internationally renowned artists (Loomit, Akut and others) during the streetart project "heaven meets earth - Himmel trifft Erde". The Abbey shop (Klosterladen) holds a booklet of all graffitis in the monastery village.
